| I had my first standardized patient interview today. The "patient" was an actor paid by the school to play the role of someone coming in with a medical problem. I was given her vital signs and told to ask the patient about her present illness. Although the I was supposed to take 15 minutes to elicit some basic info about her medical problem, all I can figure out was that she had shortness of breath when exerting herself, experiences mornign coughs, and has smoked for 30 pack-years. Beyond that, I couldn't think of any questions to ask and ended the interview early. At the moment, I just don't know enough about diseases to really ask anything really useful. Maybe I was doing it right, maybe not. We'll see soon-- appallingly, the entire experience was captured on hidden camera :)

| 1. I got went to Walmart to get a bike with which to get around the campus. 2. Said bike was the cheapest model Walmart had, rider comfort was apparently low on the engineering priorities list. 3. Furthermore, since the bike couldn't find in the back of my friend's car, I had to ride about 4 miles back to campus. 4. As I was trying to make it on time for a CPR class, I had to ride as fast as I could, despite not having ridden one for the last two years. Therefore: my butt really hurts right now.

| Dancing is fun. But it's better when one knows the steps :)
Edit: One really doesn't appreciate the size of Harvard's library system until one tries to search the one here. The Stanford library system is respectably sized, but its collection is still very lacking in the more interesting subjects.

| Still fun.
Histology is hard; too many types of cells all look alike. The problem only gets worse when you add in electron micrographs as well. I just spent the last two hours looking blood cells, and am finally learning them. But there's still a lot of reading to do for tomorrow.
We also found out our anatomy pt died from respiratory failure. Her heart definitely was pathological. She had very tough viceral serous pericardium, probably pericarditis from some infection at some point. It also looked like she had ischemia in left ventricle, but we'll know more when we open the heart on Tuesday.
